Hey guys,

For my reverse etch I have the rest of the box sprayed with black enamel, will this be durable enough or do I need to do something else to protect it? Some people seem to advocate clear laquer or baking or both, considering I don't have access to a small oven I can use for baking what's my next best bet for a durable finish?

Cheers

my dentist was wearing that get-up on monday, Jdansti. he wasn't wearing the earrings or the lippy, though.

Just made this oscillator around 5am this morning and then went to sleep.

60% of the time it works everytime...

Nice.
Interesting enclosure, too.

What the hell does it oscillate , tho?
Mockingbird wish me luck.

I never stay up that late but I was just "on a mission".

There are four oscillators, each one has a higher pitch than the last. Switches turn them on or off. Relatively simple circuit. It uses a cd40106 chip or schmitt-trigger. That is the only way I know/learned how to use them though. I like to make droning/pulsing chords and bleeps with it.  :P

It sounds great with envelope filter, like a very basic synthesizer!

Latest etch, first time I've tried something with really fine detail, really pleased with the result!

that came out stellar!

Which method/etchant did you use on that one?

Thanks man, I think it's my best one yet. Just usual laser toner transfer, 40% NaOH solution applied with a pipette, I've recently started using a brush to help agitate the solution, seems to help. Had the solution on for approx 10 mins, wiped off with kitchen paper, then reapplied, did this three times in total.

Was this by magazine paper, PnP blue, or other?

Also, what was your detailed method for getting the transfer onto the enclosure so well?

Great job!  ;)

Thanks man, I use this paper;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004S9KN06

Only £1 a pack for 60 sheets from the £1 shop I got it from, bargain!

I prep with 400 then 800 grit sandpaper till smooth, clean with acetone, then iron on max heat, usually takes about 10 mins of heat to complete the transfer.

I need to have another go with photo paper, so will give that a go, cheers for the link! I've been using PnP from Rapid for ages now, but the price has just jumped up massively :(

Latest one from me:

Been using translucent paints more and more recently. They really need a good clearcoat over them but depending on the colour they can look great over a black etch!

deadastronaut

^ nice.

i was looking at 'glass paint' the other day...that would look nice in an etch too..

transparent etc,  and some beautiful choice of colours too.. 8)

It's worked really well for me, pure fluke to be honest, it was the first one I tried after a failed attempt with magazine paper!

I had a go with a translucent paint (this one - https://www.graff-city.com/product_info.php?products_id=1580) but it wasn't quite a translucent as I'd hoped, the black etch ended up being heavily tinted so wasn't really the result I was hoping for, any tips on paint choice etc?
