The way the printer does grayscale, makes it look somewhat like a newspaper photo. Vintage-looking.

Obviously, deadastro was not so dead back then....;)
Mockingbird wish me luck.

deadastronaut

No, but i liked making fake photos... ;D :(

Hey Guitarmageddon, this Lullavibe etch is incredible  :o

I've been doing transfert with p'n'p blue with various copy machines, when I could do it at work or when the copy machine shop people were nice enough to let me use their machines ( a lot of them are afraid of "odd" paper sheets, like the p'n'p blue). And I a lot of various results as far as toner tranfert goes.

I was considering switching to photo paper and laser printer but it seems like some are better than others, to be used  as a tranfert tool for etching.

Would you mind sharing the reference of your printer?
(a" Brother" is it?)

Or if any of you guys had good or bad experiences with specific laser printers?

thanks in advance!

My printer currently is a Brother HL-2132, but I've had others.
When the ink runs out I but a new one. Whatever is the cheapest. Terribly wasteful, I know. :icon_neutral: But this one was 50 clams, a refill was $70. :icon_confused:

I've never tried PnP.
I live out in the bush. I mix my own etchant for HCl and Hydrogen peroxide. Keep it out in tubs in the laundry to breath.
The photo paper is small amounts of whatever is the cheapest. Cheap is good. Small amounts because some seem to work better than others. Thin (180g/m2) and "waterproof" seem to be generally good traits.

closetmonster.

This thread is full of so much awesome. I cannot wait for my parts to get here so that I can start etching.  :icon_twisted:

Here's a pedal built for a bassist who wanted a character from the original Fallout computer game.

It's a combination of things, but at the core is my take on CJ's "Logan 5", which was derived from Tim Escobedo's "Thing Modulator", a pseudo ring modulator.

I've paired it with a LFO and a clean blend.
It's also got a pair of external LDRs, one to warp the frequency and the other is part of a feedback loop.

The etch was pretty tricky as, not only was the image pretty murky, it's an old game with pretty low-res graphics.

There's a flashing ultra-violet "eye" synced with the LFO.

A little compilation of some of the noises it makes and a demonstration of the controls.

I started a thread about this site:

http://www.engravingschool.com/private/transfers.htm

with this thread number:

http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=104453.0

about nine new methods of transferring images to a box for engraving.  Some of the methods are simpler and more ecologically sound that what we usually see here.  Worth a look!

Hexjibber

Couple of simple builds, looper and ABY box but still thought worth a nice etch :)

"...and weird on top!"

deadastronaut

this was a rescue pedal...my son in law decided he wanted to build a yjm 308....which didn't work, had holes drilled wonky, and painted it with emulsion :icon_rolleyes:...bless ::)

so after much laughter and ridicule i decided to  take it  home , gutted it, stripped it back, and sorted it for him....

he hasn't even seen or heard it yet, but i'm sure he'll be a happy little soul as he is a big malmsteen widdly widdly ice cream van music fan.. :icon_twisted:

p.s, its not really an etch...just toner.  ;D

What a guy!  Nice rescue job, Rob.  You just need to finish it off with a (widdly widdly) blond poodle perm.   ;D
