Simple Clipping

Hi guys. I already did some simple circuits, but either they didn't work at all, or didn't work as intended.

I've done this little preamp for headphones and small amps without preamps. It worked nice.

But I wanted it to have some clipping. I tried adding two diodes in the output, but the sound was exactly the same without them. I tried the 1N4148, leds, some diodes I don't even know the part number, but the sound was always the same clean one.

Any idea what could I do to have some simple clipping on it?

Thanks.

That stage has a gain of 3, which probably isn't enough to drive the diodes you're using into clipping. You could try either Schottky diodes, like 1N5817, or germanium diodes, like 1N34, both of which have lower forward voltages (clipping threshold). Another thing to remember is put a resistor between the op amp output and the diode pair, usually around 10k. This lowers the clipping threshold as well as ensuring the output current from the op amp isn't too high.

I'll try it.

Trying to make clipping is not fun anymore. Even going exactly like the schematics say, like in a Blue Clipper, it never worked. Hope this time it works.
