Not Working
« on: February 18, 2011, 02:13:53 PM »
What can i say about it?
It looks very good
It doesn't work
Offboard wiring is good
I've got sound when bypassed
I don't have sound when activated (or just a little noisy sound when i play VERY hard...)
According To Debbugging Guide:

1 - [ISSUE] no sound when activated
2 - [CIRCUIT NAME] NPN Boost
3 - [CIRCUIT SOURCE] http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=763.0
4 - [CIRCUIT MODIFICATION] NO
5 - [PART SUBSTITUITIONS] YES:
5k linear pot -> 4,7k linear pot
6 - [GROUND CONVERSION] NO
7 - voltages, yep!

(0V on the E pin  :icon_exclaim:) (9,27V in)

if can be useful i'll post some photos of the circuit  ;D
Hoping that I've wrote down everything, I thank you in advance

hi, where it says out . that should go to pin 3 of your pot....pin 2 of your pot would then be your output...to a jack ok.

not sure if pot lug 1 would go to ground though!..probably does... :icon_wink:

4.7k is what we have in uk...usa have 5k's...nothing to bother about though. :icon_wink:

hmmmm whooops...looking at this my suggestion would be for a volume control...not the boost control...

could be

have you gone deeply through this

http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?board=6.0

I've found this in there

looks like you C is directly connected with +V (almost same voltage) check connection with 10k res.

Here I go with the photos

checked out. my multimeter said 9,86 kohm. the voltage on the C point (just after the resistor) is 9.17 (input is 9.27)
the voltage on the 2nd pin of the resistor is 9.17 (checking this out i vanished all my suspects for a bad soldering).

The junction of 10K and 47K, is that 0.4 volts? There's your problem.

So... what can I do to overcome the problem?

-Solving a problem, another reaches immediately (not so clear in english, i think)

Today, i removed the npn transistor from the board, and then I put it in its place.
After that, i checked out the voltages and this is the result

they seem to be regular.
still not working... nay, it works, but not as expected.
i hear the sound, but when i turn the pot all the way up, i stop hearing it. (after a little rash that lasts a few degrees)
when i turn the pot, i can't hear any significant increase in the volume (or gain)
what can i do in this situation?

What's the voltages on the collector, base and emitter?

they are on the picture  ;)

C: 2,78
B: 2,78
E: 2,17

Those voltages are no good. The collector and base are shorted together.
