I know a guy who works on nano litium ion batteries that follow exactly the same trench concept. They have about six or seven layers where the nano capacitor only has one insulating layer. Only a few layers work yet, that's research... The biggest difficulty is getting the layers free from defects and shorts. One nano short and your cap is dead.

These babies will most probably only be available on the chip itself. So integrated in a chip. But when kilo Farads are reached I bet there will be version with screws to connect the 1cm cables ;D.

:icon_eek:  I find this very exciting.  Personally, I would like to see batteries go to the wayside and be able to utilize more efficient energies and get off of the oil...Ok, maybe I am getting ahead of myself.

It says that they are designing them to be mass-produced.  Looks like this nanotechnology will be available to the public?

Well, possibly, but put it into this perspective: military vehicles are "mass produced". There are lots of items that are "mass produced" that aren't available to the public, at least not in a raw form. We may end up with these items, but it will probably be already built into a corporate product.
