Positive, Negative

I've built a few guitar pedals from schematics, and always had the ground on the input/output on the ring or sleeve; that makes sense to me. I've recently been playing around with some of my own designs and have a pretty good one, but it seems to only work if the input/output have the positive as ring/sleeve. I'm not asking about the schematic... yet. I'd like to know the effects of a positive input/output on the rest of my gear, i.e. (amp, active pickups and other pedals)?

Run the postive ground pedals from their own power supply - separate from the negative ground ones. Everything will be fine.

Thank you. It seems to be fine. I'll come back and leave a message if it explodes  ???
