Grabbed a couple of old transistor radios from my aunties bric-a-brac shop a few weeks ago and just opened them up and removed the trannies. Hfe's were measured with one of those little component testers from Ebay so we'll take them as ballpark. Haven't tested for leakage yet either.

MULLARD OC70 - HFE 44 PNP
MULLARD OC71 - HFE 52 PNP
MULLARD AC127 - HFE 118 NPN
MULLARD OC81 - HFE 43 PNP
MULLARD OC81 - HFE 66 PNP

GET 113 - HFE 139 PNP
GET 873(P?) - HFE 58 PNP
GET 113 - HFE 91 PNP
GET 873(P?) - HFE 27 PNP
GET 113 - HFE 122 PNP
GET 874 - HFE 183 PNP

Never heard of these GET (or maybe it's G.E.C) transistors. Anybody come across/used them?

Anyway, i think i'm going to build a hudson broadcast with the OC71 but looking for some suggestion on what to do with some of these others.

PRR

Transistors that vintage: they mostly made a random assortment, then sorted for RF, IF, low-hiss Audio, and "general purpose". IIRC the '127 has more heatsinking for "Power" use.

If you are just doing audio, try any of them anywhere.

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

Great, thanks! I guess i should try and measure leakage first and then maybe i'll throw together a quick FF or something

I've never had any troubles using them for Rangemasters....not as 'fussy' a circuit as a fuzz (if the transistor is 'high gain' for that era, won't cause any sonic problems).
