can an LED be readily replaced with a small incandescent bulb in a 9v pedal circuit? what would i need to do to replace an led with this bulb?

alternatively -- is there a bulb out there that might work better?

Without knowing what this is going in, maybe..
in general yes, remove the resistor along with the LED

That is a rather large bulb and extremely power hungry, a brite LED can easily run at half a milliamp, that bulb's specs say 200ma.

Small Bear has a variety of small bulbs which are much easier on the power then the one you linked.

Don't forget that a lamp has a much higher inrush current than steady-state current.  For light bulbs, it is about 17 times the current.  For tube heaters, it is about 3.5 times the current.  The rating on a lamp is for the steady state.
