Hi,
I have a power supply that shows a ERB44-04 diode.  I would like to know how to tell if this is a schottky type?  Or what can replace it?
NTE crosses to NTE552.
This shows a datasheet for the unit:
http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/224499/BILIN/ERB44-04.html

It is just listed as a fast recovery.

Datasheet states:
400v maximum recurrent peak reverse voltage
280v maxiumum RMS voltage
600v maximum DC blocking voltage
1A maximum average forward rectified current
30A peak forward surge current
400ns Maximum reverse recovery time
12pf capacitance

It's not a Schottky. Getting Schottky diodes over 60V is remarkably difficult.

The datasheet lists a reverse recovery time of 400nS. Calling that 'fast' is a bit of poetic license. The UF4000 series is specified at something like 40-50nS, about 10 times as fast.

I'd use a UF4005, UF4006, or UF4007. They're cheap and readily available.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Thank you for the information.  I will use one from this series.
