Chris, the Home Hardware moved a half block east from it's old location, well signed easy to see. Either 290 or 306 College. Honson in the basement.

The last batch of Hammonds i bought were tagged Made in Taiwan so maybe those are what Creaton is selling. Digikey sell the Hammonds for ~$6.50 each in a pack of ten.

How would you rate the ones you got at Digikey? The ones from Creatron aren't that great and definitely not marked Hammond. Not that evenly buffed and the tops and bottoms don't match perfectly.

They have em on sale at least once a month...which is kinda a good way to keep this thread alive. Since its holiday season theres tons of tools on sale everywhere (now and fathers day are pretty much the time for this)....has anyone else seen anything out there that caught they're attention in the fliers?

CynicalMan

Personally, I'd wait until this one goes on sale; I got mine for $20:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/6/Tools/2/Electrical/ElectricalTesters/PRD~0520052P/Autoranging+Digital+Multimeter.jsp

It's nothing amazing, but it's a solid auto-ranger for the price.

I've used one of these for several years now with no issues or problems for both pedals, amps and household stuff including a few "WTF were you thinking?" measurements/moments and it still survived.
It was on sale for about $20 when I picked one up back around 2008 or so and if it broke tomorrow I wouldn't hesitate in buying another.

With regards to the thread I'm in North Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Just noticed this thread now.  I'm in Halifax.

I used to just order from SmallBear but the shipping has skyrocketed lately.  The DIYSB store is awesome for what they have.  There are two electronics parts stores around here, both are not ideal, but you can get enclosures at Jentronics and everything else at RAE.

Got that one, love it.

Shocking!

A $62 order i placed in August was $11 shipping, did a sample one now for $62, shipping $26. Was putting one together one a couple days ago and i'm sure it was still at $11 for an equal value order. There goes Canada's business! (for what is was worth)

Same order within the states $7.25 shipping.

funny enough in august I promised my drummer I'd build something for him with parts from there (OC71) and I've put it off till now. Maybe its a holiday UNspecial. Its pain in the ass-iest time of year for any shipping type of services.

Canucker

is there anywhere in Canada that you can order some of the NOS type stuff that Smallbear carried? I need an MN3007 IC to finish off my small clone build and an OC71 transistor for a friends Rangemaster.

Greenmachine

I think Lee's Electronics has the MN3007's; but they won't have the OC71 - you'll have to go Smallbear there.

For the MN3007 you should check around town for an NTE1641 which is a pin for pin replacement. I have one i got from Tip Top in Winnipeg years ago but haven't used. They still show them on their website as does Electro Sonic but neither have stock. Phone around to the local guys and see if anyone has one or can order one in, prices i see are around $10.

OC 71... Small Bear.

I received an email from Small Bear today regarding my questions about shipping prices, still being investigated, i'll post when i get a definitive answer.

yeah the oc71 was basically my reason for looking at smallbear in the first place. I just want to place an order at one place and have it be done with....as if I'm done with building this sutff...HA! Can't wait for your full report! Love to know if its a minimum shipping charge or percentage based. Perhaps a big order would be worthwhile...maybe really really not.

Just went back in and built an order to test the cart and at $60, $13 for shipping, $61, $15 for shipping... not as bad today... maybe by the end of the week they'll be paying us to ship.  Should add shipping starts at $7 and the first increase shows up for an order a little over $20.

I love that kinda logic. Ever buy anything from tubestore? Prices in american funds even though they are in hamilton. The dollar has been steady for quite a while now but one summer it was all over the place and thats when I was ordering there. Thanks for posting that update...I'll sleep a bit easier tonight!

davent

Use to be able to walk to the tubestore but they've moved from a sketchy part of town to a newer less colourful area (and much less pedestrian friendly), with the cost of some of their inventory they must have needed a more secure locale.  Parts Connexion (diy HIFI) is in Burlington and all their prices have always been $US so when our dollar got way up there i was taking advantage of that as well.
