Which version do you recommend?

Axl

This one will be just fine ... :)

4u7 input cap (+ faces towrd the transistor) .... .22uf - .47uf output cap

I would also recommend adding a 1Meg resistor to ground at the input of the circuit to avoid "popping" when you turn the effect on.

Muchas gracias mi amigo nueva!

You live in Texas, you know what that means!  LOL  How is the live music scene in Austin these days?  Back in my college days in the late 70's, 6th Street was the happening place to be.  I used to be able to fly from Oklahoma City to Austin for $19 round trip, with free booze!
Those were the days!

Has anyone here ever built a Grunt Box? It sounded totally sweet in the sound clip. I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried it, because it's definitely on my short list of things to build.

I built the Nurse Quacky for our bass player. She loved it!
So if you plan to build something more complicated after the bazz fuss (also a great circuit - I've done three of those)
You have to tamper with the input and filter caps to get the frequency range right, though.

one question: does 1n914 bias this transistor? if so, how it happens? if not why it's there and how come that transistor is unbiased? I also saw(SHO) a diode directly to 9V and tranny biased by 10M. could anyone explain me the difference?

+1 on the Buff 'n Blend circuit!
I just upgraded a Green Russian Muff for a friend with this awesome clean blend circuit and it turned out very good!
Here's a vero link: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=59327.0 in case you're interested ;)
Clean blend is always a nice feature to have as a bass player, I certainly do like it myself ;)
Completed Projects: Gus Smalley Booster, Modded Russian Big Muff, Orange Squeezer, BYOC Vibrato, Phase 90

+1 for bazz fuss.  I built one from MarkM's layout, sounds fantastic, very much a Beatles "Revolution" sound.

Has anyone tried using a Flatline with a bass? I'm looking for a good bass compressor.

Go for the Flipster.

Awesome OD pedal based on the Ampeg Fliptop preamp section.
I'm a bass player and this has taken up full time residency in my effects loop.

Meanderthal

Tubescreamer with larger input cap(1uf or so).  Yer bass player will love it. Flipster, Brassmaster, BMP are all great too.
I am not responsible for your imagination.

These projects all appear to be way out of my league as far as building skills go.

Remember people...he's looking for "simple", as he's new to the hobby.  :)
