I got a guy with these who is trying to stick me with $4.95 a piece for those heavy duty AB pots.  There new old as AB died in 1990 and buried at Clarostat.  But also in his defense I have scoured the web trying to find AB pots cheaper and all I have have come up with are alot more expensive. like $8 - $25.  So if I were to judge by that he is giving me a hell of a deal.  So what does you guys think?  $4.95 good score or sore asshole?   :?

AB is good stuff and $5 a pop is a good price if you ask me. I can't find them that cheap.

I still remember paying $21 for a dual 250K AB a bunch of years back.

There's my 2 cents. :)

20 now that IS alot to pay for pot!!!
What do they do for the money though?
I suppose they're built better and last loonger...?
Im [kinda] looking for a great 1 meg for a SS speed treadle...and have to figure how to drive it in a VOX wah...I suppose normal sturdiness pot might not be acceptable for being driven by a gear thats 1 inch [er what] from the pot's body...

allen bradely didnt die, they just knew they couldnt keep making those in any country they manufactured in.  they are one of the biggest industrial controls manufacturers in the world, and probably the most respected, and definitely the most expensive.

Funny you bring up treadles Pete. That $21 dual pot went into an Ernie Ball volume pedal that was converted into a light dimmer controller.

Those things are full-on Mil-Spec, totally sealed, and darn near indestructable.

I would have a hard time putting them in stompboxes because of the big cost and full size, but for tube amps or anywhere where they see serious abuse..... they're king.

I have to agree with brian,  My work place is full of autmation and say AB all over the place, and I drive by one of theie buildings every day to and from work.

Just thought I'd add that in.

Thanks,

I'm actually selling an assortment of them on eBay right now, and there's no bids at $5.  Very confusing, these things go for up to $20 on some sites.

We used Allen Bradley micro controlled drive motors [tried another brand...junk...even if not compared to Allenstuff which IS the Beef!!!
There were many Allen Bradley parts we used and IIRC never heard whine nor whimper from any of them...according to those exp'd with AB devices they Are the Beef.

When I toiled in the abrasive mfg. industry,we used scads of the AB Products-Quite a bit in the dc drives(old plant) and it took that sort of beating-That is my 2 cents of the day :D

yeah they make good stuff, it's too bad that prety much no one can economically make board level components in the US anymore.
