Does anyone know what effect/pedal Dave whatsisname used to get that rrrrraspish guitar tone that the Eurythmics had?  (ie on "Would I lie to you?)

you mean the main rhythm part?

Sound to me a bit like a strat into an overdriven small amp (small speaker).. maybe a champ-type thing?

I don't mean to disillusion anyone here but, most of the greatest guitar tones ever recorded were a guitar and an cranked amp, and nothing else.

Sorry

RDV - you're right on the nose..
I have LOTS of pedals (and building more) - but to me, they're the spice, not the steak..  I use them for different tones, or to enhance an existing one.. but my main recording tone is a guitar into one of my amps...

I went into a good studio last week with aaallllll my little pedals, and one by one I plugged them in and one by one I unplugged them and just turned the Marshall up to 'patent applied for' and let er' rip. Everyone was impressed but me. Hours & hours spent breathing solder fumes for what! GGGAAAAHHHH!!!!

I did use on feedback loop clipper on the clean(er) channel for a bluesy tone(on one song), but that was it. All the high-gain stuff was just the friggin' Marshall.

I think I feel a little better now

DAVE STEWART had "The Spiritual Cowboys" after the Eurythmics, and now has a new band with a couple of friends of mine
"Da Univerzal Playaz".
He is a great fan of non-ordinary pedals, and uses an armada of them on stage, hooked up to 2 "5150"-s.
