sorry to post off topic but I figure this is probably the best place to ask...

While we are in the USA for the SXSW festival, we're planning a tour down the west coast, from around March 22 to April 1. The following cities are pretty much confirmed: Seattle, Olympia, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, and Tucson. We really want to play a show in Portland, but we haven't had any luck with venues there. If anyone knows of any venues that we should approach in this city or any others on the way this would help us out.

Also, if any knows of any bands in these areas that would be good for us to play with, keeping in mind that we would have zero fanbase so getting people there would be up to advertising and the others bands' appeal. We should have a 10 inch out by the time we're there, so hopefully we'll have some radio play, but I don't know how much this would help.

We have some mp3s at our website: //www.tuckerbs.com but to  really get a feel for what we are like live you'd probably need to check out the reviews at our site.

Hope someone can help,
Darren

BRENT

I don't live in Seattle, but here is a radio station that could be helpful.  They are 100% publicly controlled and play real Independant music and are a resource for the Seattle scene.  The website is www.kexp.org

Brian Marshall

i live in seattle, and kexp will play just about anything... if you get some contact info, and call them before you get in to town... tell them your are from australia, and have some music they will probably interview you.... well maybe.

as far as portland goes... i grew up down there, but havent really paid much attention to the venues down there.  I know there are lots of little bars and stuff that play live music and such, but i dont know any of them anymore.

I lived in OZ from age 5 to 8.... you will be shocked once you get to Portland and Seattle.... very different weather... unless you are from tazmania.

smoguzbenjamin

I like the music on yer site!
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

Alex C

Me too, all the songs are excellent.   Good work.  :D

Today in Perth was 41.5 °C (107 °F) with our highest recorded humidity ever for a day over 40 degrees. It's now 3AM and it's still 27°C (81°F) with 80% humidity. Bitterly cold seems kinda inviting right now... Maybe I could get some sleep.

Cheers for the info on KEXP and thanks for the kind words smoguzbenjamin and Alex.

Anyone know anything about suitable venues in portland?

Brian Marshall

HA!!!!!  when i lived in OZ i lived in northern queensland in a tiny town called mackay.  seemed like it was about 40 deg everyday during the summer.  I remeber getting burns on my feet from walking on the sidewalk.  had to go to the doctor.

Peter Snowberg

Great music! 8) I liked all three tracks very much. :D Your band has got that great hard-driving-mellow thing happening that I tend to go for.

What size venues are you looking for?

For one public radio station in the San Francisco area, try http://www.kpfa.org

Best of luck on your tour!

I guess we're looking for venues around the 100-300 capacity range. We're also looking for bands in San Fransisco as well as another venue. We have one venue booked (as far as I know...I thought we had two but we've already been bumped from one venue).

Any favourite bands in San Fransisco (or passing through late march), Peter (or anyone)?

Brian Marshall

try the harmony central forum... i think there are a few portlanders that that gig.

if you make it to seattle, i'll com to your show as long as i can take all your pedals appart and look inside them... preferable right before you go on stage...

Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, if you aren't already playing there, and The Stork Club in Oakland, the Starry Plough in Berkeley (many extra coolness points for playing the East Bay, NOT just S.F.).

Get in touch with KALX, the UC Berkeley station, and KZSU, the Stanford one. They do in-studio appearances and will at least put your gig on their entertainment calendar.

check out http://www.byofl.org

it's a great place to find contact info, from houseshows to huge venues.

Mike Nichting

I know this doesn't help much but I played all over the US way back when and loved it~!! I hope you have just as good a time here~!!

Rock on~!!

Here are a couple of bands in the San Francisco area:
http://www.oranger.net/info.html

http://www.persephonesbees.com/

I hear they play at a place called "The Bottom of the Hill" or something like that up in SF.

In LA:

Spaceland in Silver Lake, CA is a cool place.

BEN:   Mos Eisley Spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

LUKE:   But I was going into Toshi Station to pick up some power converters...

VADER:   I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Peter Snowberg

Hey Darren,

I was just out on a long bike ride and I wanted to let you know that "like fighting when you don't want to fight" kept running through my head! :D

That was from listening to it two days earlier too. 8) It's great music to mountian bike to by the way.

I haven't been out to see live music in San Francisco in a couple years, but in addition to Bottom of the Hill (I used to live on the other side of the hill), I would say "The DNA Lounge", "The Paradise Lounge", and "The Transmission Theatre" would also be worth checking into if they're still around. I'll pick up one of the local entertainment papers and post some more.

Take care,
-Peter

hey darren,   when are you going to be in austin?  we should hook up, i can show you some of my hometown! if you've never been to austin, you're in for quite a treat...it's an awesome city. if my band doesn't get a showcase, we'll probably play some off-conference shows...i'll let you know if anything worthwhile comes up.....and this is a long-shot, do you know a girl named kim felmingham? she's played bass in several syndey bands (one i remember called "twelve 24"). good friend of mine over there.  jon

Darren N

Thanks everyone for the responses, It's coming along really well - hopefully we can squeeze one more San Fran show.

Jon, we'll be in Austin for pretty much the duration of sxsw, trying to see as much of it as possible. Our showcase is at Sake on 6th on Friday 19th and we're playing a couple of other shows at Club Deville and BD Riley's on Saturday afternoon. I can't believe how much music they cram into this week. I haven't met your friend Kim, but that's not so surprising, we don't get over to Sydney that often.

Peter, you sound like a man that needs a CD. We'll be in San Francisco on and around the 28th of March so I'll try to get one to you then.

I'll post full dates as soon as they're finalised (if I haven't already used up my OT quota)

cheers everyone,
Darren

you're going to DIG club deville. it's a great place to play, it's outdoors, and there will be tons of people.    jon

We finally got our visas, scraping things a bit close, but that's pretty much how things usually run for us.
