looking around the net, people keep saying they get their LDR's from radioshack. I went to RS, no deal. nothing on their website either. what other source are you guys getting them from. I'm looking for something cheap i can use. I'd rather not buy a preassembled optoisolator for $10 when i can make one for 50 cents...

thanks!

:o Where I live there are no Radio Shack shops ( I live in a small place but we indeed have a component shop   which is a rarity in Finland)

Almost all shops and mail order component suppliers have cheap ldrs I believe, maybe you had just ordinary luck (that component you need is just out of supply in that shop you visit, that happens me *every* time, happy there is some mail order business)

Another story are cheap ldrs suitable for all projects. No

Most cheap and common ldrs are somewhat slow. In some applications like compressor, limiter and faster tremolo/ vibe this may be disadvantage and the circuit just does not work fast enough. And certain circuits are designed for special ldrs that have right dark/light resistance value and are fast enough.
