You might be able to change some R values around the LED, or boost the input to make it go brighter...you can probably see the sweep that causes the LED to turn on/off in relation to the timing of the attack of signal input, to get an idea of where the Resistance would moslty take place in relation to the attack...there should be a sequence of events [on and off] in the LED in relation to higher and lower amplitudes at the input that can probably be varied by adding boost, and or altering the circuit slightly...Pretty sure boosting will brighten the LED, I'm not as sure about modding the ckt to do that.
 I got some really interesting stuff going with this one, using it post-Fuzz, but I didn't really mess with it all that much.
