Ghehe what you should look at is a crankshaft of a combustion engine and see how that's done. You could use a rotating motor do (ahem) pump a piston up and down like that ;)

You're a sick person :)

I'm looking for a one - motor- device, not a car engine :)

I'll echeck out the servo's.

I think a stepper motor is what I'm going to go for-I'm going to see what I can get at RS to do this.

I'll tell you what it's all about since I'm sure you're sick of hearing me be incredibly generic about my questions...  I was joking around with her, she has a bunch of beanie babies her grandmother gave her for college money.  They sell for near nothing on ebay, so I was joking around and being purposefully immature and pretending they were having sex and as a joke said "God, wouldn't it be great if we sewed them like this?  They'd sell like hotcakes".  She took the idea very seriously, especially since I proposed putting a motor in there to really get the "pumping" motion down.  Just a dream, but I do really think it would sell like crazy :)

Who's the sick one now?
Life is like a box of chocolates.  You give it to your girlfriend and she eats up the best pieces and throws the rest away.

I read that thread but didn't think of it... nope, no CD rom drives.

Quoteno CD rom drives

well, there's bound to be someone you know who has some junk parts, or even a local "junk recycling" place.

Maybe go to a local computer store and see if they've got some junked ones they'll part with.

You'll still need some kind of driver chip, but you should be able to come by some small steppers fairly easily and cheaply.

speaking of chips, check these out.

...and there's STACKS of info about using these chips and others on the net.

Old floppy drives use a stepper motor as well to move from sector to sector. You might also do a search on "Hobby CNC Mills" and you'll find a ton of surplus places selling any number of various strength stepper motors some of them quite cheap, they also have boards and drivers to move them. Just a thought. *shrug* :D
