well i tried to build one dod yngie malmsteen overdrive from a schem i found but there was no sound coming out...i've been told that the schem had some mistakes.does anyone have or know where to find a schem that is tested to be correct

mine worked fine but i replaced the opamp with a lm386 chip.. and modified the layout slightly.

according to a recent discussion on this topic.  it was shown that the 100 ohm resistor isn't needed as it doesn't offset the vbias in a soncially noticable way.

have you built and audio probe.. to find out where the signal dies..  also you can use yoru multimeter and set it on continuity  or on resistance.  clamp one end on ground  and check all your other signal points. u should have resistance in between the two leads if you find a direct point. or it beeps for continuity users out there.  then you have a short to ground. at that point..

Has anyone tried a NTE823 instead of a LM386?  According to the press info a NTE823 has the same pinout and frequecy response except that it has a noise floor of -250db.

actually yes i did get one as a sample.  and i did like it however for my box it is kind of like the old mxr dist arguments. the 741 is in your face and aggressive same with my n-3's.  of course i will be going to a different schematic soon anyway.

I've just finished to build it with all the schem's components and it works fine :)

Mark Hammer

In a recent article, Malmsteen describes himself as having "designed" the pedal.  Yeah, right, he's a designer.

Davide

well.. if he designed the box he didnt make a great effort.. :D
the circuit is the same of the old grey Dod250, except for the the different IC and the little input cap..

(i'm testing mine.. this stomp is surprising... no noise at all :)   )

Paul Marossy

I built this circuit not too long ago, but I thought that it sounded very rough. Is this one of those circuits that are sensitive to what opamp you use?

PS - Mark, didn't you know that Yngwie is a god?  He could have designed that in his sleep...

Hmm... I wonder if I could mod a Boss Metal Zone and call it "my own". Oh, what a minute, no one's ever heard of me. Oh, well.

Unless the part is only a fraction of a degree above absolute zero, that's physically impossible.

Given that the universe is filled with noise at 2.726°K, I'm not going to hold my breath looking for that kind of noise free operation.
