I'm having issues posting from iOS - some characters which work on my Mac are illegal and cause a database error. Anyone else?

Albeit small, I made my first donation to a forum.
This is deserved.

Thanks Aron, For all the work you have put in to keep this Forum up and running, appreciated.

One qualm with this new server as opposed the previous, is the right click spelling corrector, It struggles to bring up any words related to the misspelt word, whereas the previous spell corrector was flawless compared.
Hopefully you can get that sorted.
Cheers.

I know that the part of the process of upgrading was moving to UTF-8 but wouldn't that help?
I will ask around about this. Do you know what characters you were trying to use. Send me PM

I had database error when pasting from your off-forum email into a post here. The source is Thunderbird-Win which ought to be naked ASCII? Your email reports as

Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Type: text/plain;

Do you know what you're doing?

stallik

One of the icons in the editor (to the right of the YouTube) is what you need. Now has an option to resize the image display which saves you adding the html code.
Upload the image to a web image store of your choice then enter the web link into the URL field, add an optional size and you are done

Excellent! Thanks, Aron. Also, one vote for a dark theme option, if possible.

Aron has found the solution for punctuation issues on iPhones and iPads
Go to settings/general/keyboards and turn smart punctuation off.

Seems that the smart punctuation uses different characters which aren't recognised. With smart punctuation off, you will still see suggestions which you can either select manually (or press enter for the highlighted correction) Both appear to work, the auto filled smart punctuation does not

That is a fix, but unfortunately our journey is not over. The upgrade failed when converting the tables over to utf8_general_ci. I believe that is why we are having these problems. Will need to do more checking to figure out how to finish the upgrade.

aron

Does anyone here know about collations? So we are now at utf8mb3_general_ci which should handle the smart quotes no problem. So strange.
