Got this buggar of a SD-1/DMM problem.
Well the SD-1's wasn't working...who knows why...especially not me...the DMM beeps with the open end of a 10k resistor [I started ripping the second half of the really nice SD-1 build I spent all day yesday on, and all last night and this morning trying to get going.
I had th OA pins looking good voltage wise, but the DMM beeped between any of pins 5-7.  Dagg...NO CONNECTION I kept telling it...You HAVE No Conntection there...how can you possibly be BEEPING like that.
I dug trenches between the rows 5-7 to the right of the OA, and clipped more wires, pulled a buncha stuff out, then continued Telling that crustation there's no way...simply not possible...at that point I had this 10k lead sticking out and so I put the meter on that...BEEEEEEEEPPPPP. beep beep ....
Anyone have this? is it the meters battery level falling too low? The low battery indicator doesn't work on this meter IRC, it duped me last time on a build...I can't remem how I detected it, but it was too late for that cct too.
What's a good minimum voltage to run these things at? Next time I but a meter, I'll take a 9v on a 317 regulator, and drop the voltage to test the low battery indicator.
Am I off base or just need a new battery for the DMM and start the SD1 over?

Try verifying your meter on a "known" battery.
Such as your car battery(12V)
Under "resting" conditions, i.e. engine OFF, U should have
slightly over 12VDC on the DMM.
Do U have meter set 2 DC?????
Sometimes DMMs default 2 AC on power up.
Make sure it's not "operator error"  LOL!!

Battery Was Low...6.72v...I don't know what the bottom out is on the meter, but I stuck a known good [fresh sparky tastin' rechargeable] one in there and found the 10k resistor [don't believe at your own risk...yes 10k [Brown Black Orange Gold] was actually measuring .003k [or something rediculous like that, I can't recall exactly...low enough to trigger the DMM's beep with one lead open...
So got Those two troubles out of the way for a time...when it rains it pours...
Two wierd ones like that in one morning kinda threw me, I sorta ripped the second half of the cct out...fairly neatly [lol] maybe it can still be salvaged...
THE THING That Should Not BE !!! Then the other thing that should not BE !!! Gotta  remem to chack that DMM Batt next time that kind of 'thing' comes up !!! 10k beeps/shorts all over that Arre [arrrgh] not [KKNoTT]
%*# #@&& Connected !!!

HEY pETE,
One note---
9V *rechargables* are *not* 9V.
if nicad, they are actually 7.2V fully charged.
Get a *real* 9V batt.
Or, better yet, make a 9V pwr supply from a LM317 regulator.
See the GEOFx pages for lots of nfo on this...

Ichsne on the Intermodulationhe
I'm much happier when stuff fails these days. I used to freak out because I knew no recourse but repair shop or dumpster/these days I'm happy to know I can find the problem when I have one.
The SD-1 cct. is stunning. Working perfectly now.
I've got a 317, N/P hooking them up if needed.
The Dmm Actually does well I would guess from the problem onsets IV'e had it  with///too bad it doesn't simply shut off when supply reaches a certain point in it's voltage decline.
So other than the meter, which was Ez [put in a decent battery], and the 10k-not [which turned out to make the meter beep], which was just a little harder to find than a battery with PS,...and the amp or reverb's intermodulations...things are just fine.
 Todays three problems...
Find the problem with the tester and fix him.
Find a 10k that measures like nothing...go fig...[while it's in the cct] and then get 10k going in the cct there by re-do [messy, not what I had planned...this thing was 'tight' the way I wanted this one...no matter...]
Find the problem with the tube amp and register the need to look for some caps and such for it...the O' old RCA Victor...hafta spread it back out and work on it maybe...probably will have to be replaced with 'something' for a time so I can test stuff.
After withstanding all the torments of this morning and afternoon, the amps failure was greeted with a smile...the SD-1 sounds just great !
Next time I want to test it's not so fun though, I really was able to match the RCA's tone and mentally tweek cct's close enough for finals on the MkII.
 Not bad...8 buxx, plus 40 for tubes, 15 years great service...now I get a new project !
