Quick question. would 12 volts be enough to power the neovibe? it calls for 14 to 18 volts ac (i think) and i have a 12.6 volt transformer.

Hi.  I'm certinly no expert, but depending on the regulation required, you can get up to about 15 V DC out of a 12.6V AC transformer.  You'll need a bridge rectifier and some v large caps.  If you need a regulator IC to take out all ripple and hum (e.g. an LM7812), you'll lose about 2V.

Thanks, there is a bridge, 7815 regulator and two large caps 1000uf on the circuit board allready. would this still work pumping 12 volts ac into it?

Hi.  If you've got a 12.6V AC transformer and a multimeter, give it a test run.  If the voltage out of the regulator is less than, say, 14.8V, then it's not getting enough juice to do its job properly.  My guess is that 12.6V is going to be just a bit too low to drive a 15V regulator.  But hey, the quoted voltage is probably ball-park, and the load is going to be light, so there's a couple of things working in your favour.

WOW you must be psychic :shock:  i just hooked it up and took a reading and guss what.......14.8 volts! i'm not kidding. thanks for all your help. i think it will work.

Typically you'll get 1.4 times the DC from AC after rectification and filtering. Most voltage regulators, or atleast the 7XXX series, want about 4V extra to what they are going to put out to be really happy.

My convern with this would be not enough over head voltage to prevent rippling for occuring.
