I was looking over my Dan-o compressor this weekend and discovered it seems to be a Ross/dynacomp clone to some degree. It uses the same chip and the same number of npn's. From the small amount I was able to back engineer it seemed very much like the Ross.

Of course they seem to have some sort of flip flop and buffer on board which the originals didn't.

I'm wondering if I can remove the main compressor circuit and remount it in a hammond with TBP, repalace the pots with good ones also.

I'd like to take the time to really get what is going on first. Has anyone here had a chance to look this pedal over?

Thanks

As time marches on, it seems like many of the Danelectro pedals are essentially clones or adaptations of many original "vintage" effects, rather than wholly new designs.  That's fine with me, and they certainly aren't the only ones to do that.  The nice thing is they bring effects "to the people" for reasonable cost.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Dano compressor were essentially a Dynacomp/Ross clone.  If you want to make an OTA-based compressor, there are only so many single OTA chips out there, and no one has much motivation to go beyond the tried and true full-wave rectifier circuit used not only in the Dynacomp but many many other commercial compressor pedals.

You COULD remove the board and remount in a different case with other pots and switches.  On the other hand, I'm one of those guys who wonders why anyone would turn their compressor OFF, so rehousing to be able to stomp on it in a carefree manner strikes me personally as wasted effort.  But obviously that's just me.
