Can I add volume control to a pedal that doesn't have it?

The EH Clone Theory chorus/vibrato is one of my all-time favorite pedals. Yet I never use it, because it adds a significant volume boost, and there is no volume control.

Is there a way to add a volume control to an effect like this? It's a more complex circuit than I'm comfortable playing with without any clues.

Of course you can put a volume control right on the output jack.

You can use a small trimmer and simply remove the output wire (assuming it's not connected directly to the PCB) and put the output wire on any outer lug of the trim pot. Now take the wiper (middle) of the trim and attach that to where the output wire was connected onto the jack. Use a small piece of resistor lead or something to connect them.

Now take the other remaining outer lug of the trim pot and attach it to the ground of the output jack. (you can use resistor lead for this too).

Now set the trim to adjust the volume so it's unity with the effect on.

Try a 100K trim pot.

Good Luck!

Excellent idea; I'll definitely give it a try. Do I need a capacitor to prevent treble loss, or is that not a factor here? (I'm thinking of volume controls on guitars, I guess.)

I *ALWAYS* wanted to ask this, but never got to it. This seems related.so......:

Wouldn't This kinda volume control change the output inpedance of the circuit ? From what i know... low output impedance and high input impedance is good.  So when we are decreasing the volume, we are increasing the output impedance (besides assigning more of the voltage to the resistance-to-ground part of potentiometer) ?

And wait..... to increase the volume, wouldn't 1 has to alter the output resistor (that is in series to the outputjack) and then add a pot ? Cause wouldn't just adding a pot/trim just allow the volume to be altered down ?

i think i'm confused about impedance.  And why are output resistors really required ? Just to set the impedance ? To limit the current ?

Oh and while i'm at it, the inputcap + resistorto ground acts as a RC lowpassfilter to take away high freqencies right ? with the formula freq = 1/RC ?

thanks

well, yes, but thats all he wants it for.  He said that the chorus pedal adds too much of a volume boost for it to be useful.

Im not too sure about impedance.
