I'm a little embarrased to post these, since they aren't from a miked cab. It's direct from the pedal, so to get a better idea try routing the signal to a guitar amp :) The first sample is using neck HS3's, and the 2nd is a "singlebucker":

I promise it sounds righteous in real life through the Champ :) The samples came out pretty buzzy, which is the usual from this garbage soundcard.

These sound really bad. I'll never make good samples :(
I'll post better ones when I can get a soundcard with a working microphone jack. The playing on #2 is kinda silly anyway :)

My sound card suck's too !, I'm gonna start lookin for 1 that has Guitar in on it, and it's gotta have some decent feature's !
Still the Pedal has a great sounding bottom to it, and bridged it had a good bite, i don't have any high gain pedal's but this one i'm gonna have to try.

there not that bad, and anyway, the general senses is that pedal is great, so im sure it sounds better through a amp  :)

Joe, I love the Vulcan!

It was a little buzzy for my modded amp so I did the usual filtering throughout the pedal. I'm using it a lot!

Thanks!

I don't have to listen to the samples, there is one breadboarded and sitting on top my SS amp.  Most squishy distortion I have heard.  I guess it is my current favorite.  As Aron said I made some cap changes, actually toned it down some, that's different.  Reduced the bass and treble and added a notch filter.  Sort of turned if from a high-gain monster, to a high gain singing overdrive fantasy majestic tone.

I'll certainly vouch for it measuring up to any of the 10 other distortions I have, both commercial and DIY.  Highly recommended.   8)

That actually sounds quite nice for that much treble content. I mean those samples sure have a lot of treble but it is not too bad sounding treble... More like smooth treble (at least to my ears when listening through my AKG K240S headphones. Hmmm... One more to add to my build it list. :)

What comes to recording with computers... Mic inputs on most consumer level souncards (including all products from Creative) suck. They are noisy as hell etc. It's better to use the line input with a separate mic preamp of some kind. You can make a better preamp than those built in ones on soundcards from a single opamp or some transistors. Even minibooster should work or LPB-1 or well... many other boosters too. Some of them might not have enough gain for a mic though but its easy to experiment if you have allready built some of them.

If you really want to go HiFi on the mic preamp then there are also many schematics for those floatting around the net.

Yeah, I thought the buzzy edge added by the soundcard made it sound like it was being played through a cheap Radio Shack guitar amp.

All the same,  below the added noise and buzz, I was impressed at the clarity of the guitar's tone through the pedal.  It is high-gain, but I could actually hear individual strings in the chords.  It doesn't seem to make things as mushy or dead like the average DOD or BOSS MT-2.   I find the metal zone makes your guitar sound like a synthesizer electric guitar sample:  too flat and un-milkable.  It sounded like the Vulcan responds well to dynamics.

Good work Joe!

You might do better recording analog to tape and transferring to the PC. Something to consider.

Going direct from a pedal to a sound card isn't a good idea. Try running it through a cabint simulator if you aren't already. Even the crappiest sound cards should sound better than that.
