I'm getting ready to build this effect from the tonepad schematic but I've searched this site and done many searches on the web for this transistor and I'm unable to find the specs or subs for it. Not even the Fairchild site has anything on it. So if anyone can help me with this one I would really appreciate it.

Yep, it's only used for switching so the exact type is unimportant.

Wow thanks for the fast replies. Does anyone have any idea what value LDR is good for this particular compressor?

mikeb

Like with most LDR/LED coupling actions, most everything will 'work', but the response will change depending on the combinations. The specified optodevice has these characteristics:

Checkout the data sheet - but if you have any LDRs to hand, try them firstly and see if you like the sound!

Thanks again for the help I greatly appreciate it. :D

8) Let us know how you go .... and if you have time post some info on the LED/LDR you use also at Tonepad!

I sure will do so but it will be awhile because I just ordered everything yesterday. But I will.

Yes I have the board populated but I have no idea what the opening marked control is for? If anyone who has built this can help me out I would really appreciate it.

it is the control line for the millenium LED circuit. If you use a 3pdt footswitch you can ignore that part of the circuit.
If you use a DPDT you may want to use the millenium LED. In that case the control line goes to the FS as per the schematic

Okay well for being a fairly small project this one has me confused. I hope you can tell from the picture where I have the LDR placed. I'm sure this is the correct place because I can tell a difference when light hits it and when its in darkness. What I don't know is the where to put the LED. I would assume it goes in the spot I have marked #2. In my tests I get no light from it and yes I even did a 180 with the LED to make sure I had it in correctly.

As for #1 I have no idea what its for. Maybe for an on/off LED? I have put a lot of thought and done many experiments trying to figure this one out. I know its something simple but as much as I have learned thus far, I still have a ways to go. So if anyone could help me out here it would be awesome.

The original design calls for a LED and LDR coupled together in a custom package (the VTL5C2), and hence the layout is arranged around the physical characteristics of this unit. What you need to do is get the LED and LDR right next to each other, and just allow their leads to be long enough to make this happen. Or, solder one in place then glue each of them together, then run wires from the pads on the board to the other.

The Millenium2 is built onto this board ... the pads you have marked #1 are for the bypass LED. Try wiring your dpdt etc like this ...
