Multi Face built, yupp, 10k trim going from Gnd to 100k/base of Q2 and gain pot...it's all looking wired right.
I can only get minimal distortion though...transistors seem to bias well...I'm usin a pot setup for the gain knob that goes from .6k to 1.6k...I didn't see a value for the gain pot, and figured this setup [pot and a resistor] should get enough range...[?]
I can't seem to figure it out, it should distort pretty heavy I'd think...

what transistors are you using?  This has a massive effect on the sound.  Also, about the gain control, I shorted mine - that is, fixed max gain.  I never seem to turn it down, and i wanted to make it without pots :-D  I get extremely high gain, with this max gain, and 2n7000's.  However, when I put in something like 2n3904's, the gain is considerably lower, and distortion is fairly mild.

Not sure if this helps you...I'll read some voltages later tonight, if you want.  I have mine on perf, and out of a box right now, so it wouldnt be any trouble at all ;-D

Well, that settles it!!!
Elimination /Jumper where the gain pot was..Gains like crazy now...
One might assume I'd thought 'correctly' about the function of the Gain Pot on a FF by now...lowering resistance to ground allows more juice to go through the Source to Drain    Learning how to think still 8)
C me if I'm wrong, but Gain pots in say TS Increase resistance to produce more gain...
I can see why people would write books and articles about findings with electronics...mine would surely need a good EE Editor...
Interviewed Mos and Mos, every substitution has good bias and interesting sound!!! Guitar Gain rolloff is good!!!
Had to build another FF, decided to try the Source/Emitter bias method in the Multi Face...very good, thank you Tim Escebedo, Gary Burchett, and Hal for the circuit and the little gain pot issue.
The Gain Pot WAS working, just wouldn't go 'high enough...thanks for the tip, I was about to start messing with it anyway, it was actually a 10k with a 2k2 across the 'ears' [outside lugs].

glad you like it, its a neat little circuit :-D

if you want something hard/heavy, try a tant. cap for input.  It sounds strange, yet cool.
