i am currently making a custom pedal board and i wanted to know if anyone had a surge protector schematic or if you could point me to one.  thanks.

exactly. The usual way of including surge protection is to add a varistor *across the AC powerlines* even before the fuse., sometimes even before the powerswitch.
These things more or less act like an open connection untill you reach a certain breakthrough threshold - then their resistance drops like a stone. This works well to get rid of spikes as caused by fridges turning off, or fluorescent lighting, and even works as an over-voltage protection of sorts (shunting away a lot of current while the fuse goes). It' will need replacement after this though - they usually explode.
It's common to choose one rated at at least 1.5-2 times nominal operating voltage, although I've seen both higher and lower (!!) ratings. 130V for 115 operation is waay too close to my liking, although I've seen this in a Gallien Krueger.
