Hi all,

I've been looking at this article:

And I have a 4016 lying around. I'm thinking, couldn't I just use an NPN transistor as the inverter for the NotControl signal? That would eliminate an IC. Also, is there a way of using an SPST momentary switch for this? It would make switching much cheaper :mrgreen: No more expensive mechanical switches :p

Did you read all of it?  There are options for using a momentary switch with either inverters or NAND gates.  I'm not following your comment about eliminating the IC.  How do you propose to get the control signal to the switches -- V+?  Can a transistor source the NotControl to all required switches at the same time?  This thing's no picnic to wire, but I've built the non-momentary version (unfortunately only on breadboard) and it's steady as a rock.  I'd stick with the unit as designed.

I was toying with eleminating the IC for the inverters. As far as I'm aware you have ICs with a bunch of inverters etc in one package, but not inverters/boolean gates in a TO92 (which would be handy!). Well I'll give it a shot as shown on my breadboard.

You can always use the CD4053, which is a 3PDT switch (i.e. like the three-pole stomp switch!) and does not require the inverter.

It can work from 9V power.  Google "CD4053 PDF" and you'll see.  You will find it along its brothers (CD4051-SP8T and CD4052-2P4T).

I've done a few of my boxes with the 4053 succesfully.
