a reverb tank is a metal enclosure with 2 or 3 long springs in it. the signal is fed into the springs on one end and the springs start humming, they take a while to be still again and there is the reverb.

i wouldn't advise building your own reverb tank, they come in amps. there are also stand alone reverb units, which CONTAIN a reverb tank.
