I'd like to convert the battery circuit in my Kawai SX210 synthesizer so it can use a Lithium battery instead of the (stock) NiCD battery.

Can anyone tell what should be done ? as far as I understand seeing conversions done on other synths, the 1.5K resistor connected to the battery should be replaced by a 1N4148 diode, with the diode's positive side facing the battery's positive side ?

Thanks

What I know lithium-ion cells need very "intelligent" charger... special chips and temperature sensors and such, so it might not be easy

Thanks, it's not a lithium-ion but a  regular Lithium - no chrarge needed.

Can't say I've ever heard of a plain Lithium battery, I've heard of lithium-polymer and lithium-ion though. Can you elaborate?

//www.batteryuniversity.com might help.

Be aware that if you DO use lithium-ion that they can be quite dangerous. They require specialised charging circuitry as well as current limiting and over-discharge protection.

Yeah I believe he means those very nice and powerful lithium button cells, it was clear in the question but I fuzzed it. If I understand keyb/synths use a battery to maintain your sounds and settings when power is off. A Ni-Cd can die by age and accidents, and needs regular charging, so new equipment use those lithium batteries for simple and reliable performance. My Casio CZ-1000 has regular batteries, the big ones, and lots of them. When kids laughed at my old synthesizer I lied that Van Halen "Jump" was played with a Casio CZ-1000, and they believed me, their eyes and mouths were wide open...

Quess some kind of diode trick could do the job. Maybe a schottky diode can be used for less voltage drop, or you could adapt a P-channel mosfet for almost no drop...

Ah ha, Lithium Manganese! Duracell brand them as "Duracell Ultra."
