Anyone know how the solo to "Love Hurts" by Nazzareth was done? Tons of compression and very precise bends? Or did they have something like an ebow back then?

Believe it or not, I think my dad made the mixing console used for that.  Or at least the chassis.  He had a small machine shop, and around 1970-71-ish some guy from Le Studio at Morin Heights (where the tune was recorded) came in with a job for him to do.  It was some big console panel where he had to machine lots of holes for pots, faders, switches, etc.  I never actually got to see it.  He only told me about it later  ("Mark, have you ever heard of some place called 'Le Studio'? ").  From the size and complexity, it was likely a mixing console of some type.

No ebow.
Lonnnnnng before the ebow as a matter of fact.
I think it was done along the lines of "american woman" just cleaner.

What self-respecting Rush fan doesn't know about Le Studio?

Okay.
What the hell do I know!
I use a Flat-Pick and the fingers on my right hand.

High gain resulting in feedback and propitious use of a slide. In the MTV video, I remember the player using a billiard ball.
