-When wireing a pot, does it matter how i wire the two outside ones?  like, if I switch them???

-How do I tell the polarity of a diode?  Is positive, the side with the silver band?

-If I need a 2.2M resisor and all I have right now is (4, 680 ohm) and (3, 47k ohm) resistors, can this stompbox be born tonight with what I have???  Will what I have make 2.2M???

The only this is that the top end will become the bottom, and the bottom becomes the top. Maybe I should have said the counter clockwise end becomes the clockwise end. It just reverses the direction of rotation. No harm will be done.

The band on the diode is the same as the line on the schematic that the arrow is pointing towards. In almost all cases, the band goes towards to negative side. The band is the "cathode" end.

I'm sorry to say that you're going to need something else there. If you put all those resistors in series, you would only have about 144K total (you just add the values). If you have a broken radio or some other device you can steal a resistor from, that may be your best bet. If you can't find a 2.2M, try looking for the largest values you can find and use a bunch to get things going tonight but it's probably better to replace any "strings" you make with a single resistor later on.

Take care and best of luck!,

uhh :(  I'll have to wait till tomorrow to finish.

Thanks

So the shaft of the pot is facing you.
Turn the pot down like your'e turning th volume down.if you had a pointer knob on it the pointer would be pointing directly at the log of the pot you want to connecto to ckt ground [assuming its a vol pot wired this common way]

What are you building? Sometimes big resistors like 2M2 are to keep your switch from popping. If so, finish your build and add the resistor tomorrow.

cobainlives_05

its the first component in the circuit, the 2.2M.  What does it do there?

smoguzbenjamin

that 2.2 M resistor is the bias resistor for the tranny. I'm afraid you'll have to use that very resistor otherwise your transistor won't be biased correctly... and you get a wierd totally buggered-up sound. Unless it's a bad schematic you need a 2.2M resistor, but I doubt it's bad. :)

Bummer huh, one part missing
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

If it's a huge [1meg+] resistor on the outside [before] the input cap...it'll just stop your popping when you bypass switch...for testing the ckt it is not necessary.
For switching the bypass on and off for the ckt it is not necessary unless the DC blocking cap needs a bleedoff resistor, and the pops are buggin ya...I just stick them on there anyway when I have them...but aren't really part of the ckt 'proper' more like part of the switching mechanism.

pete,

The 2.2M resistor is between the collector and base of the tranny. Looks like a bias resistor to me.

Inside the Ckt...like between C and B [would be insides...lol]parts pretty much always gotta be in there.
Every once in a while a part can be eliminated but this aint the one..

O, that makes sense.  But, while my dad is out getting my last resistor, how heat sensitive are transistors?  Thats all that i have left to put in except for that resistor, and trannies are suppose to go in last, would it hurt it to put it in now and wire everything up?
