Slightly OT - the nicest chorus sound ever?

Well - I may have found my favorite chorus effect ever... that's the good news.

The bad news is - it's not in a pedal.. or a rack.. it's in a synth.

I have an Access Virus Indigo2 - which has analog inputs to allow for vocoder effects, as well as access to the on-board effects processor.   One of the other guys on the mailing list is a guitarist, and freaked out when he tried his guitar plugged into the chorus sound.   I have to agree!

Currently - I'm playing my guitar, into my homebrew Ross/Dyna, and into the Virus (using the chorus, and a bit of delay) and it's SMOOOOTH and RICH!   For recording purposes, this is my new chorus!

So Mark, when you going to trace it and post the schem for us?   :D

:D
If it were an analog synth - maybe.. but I've gotten rid of pretty much all of my analogs.. this one is ALL digital.

I have a roland SH32, and the chorus on it is good too, although it is a far more limited than the virus stuff.  You cant patch in to it.  I dont understan how roland can screw up all their guitar choruses, and get the synths right though.

I have a Roland RS-09 String/Organ synth, with an external input and it's chorus.... you guessed it, it's basically a CE-1. At least that's what it sounds like to me. That's what's in the RE-501 Chorus Echo I have, which is the nicest chorus to my ears.

Second is the Roland Dimension D

Third the Dimension C

Fourth is the Boss CE-2B bass chorus

Fifth the TC Chorus/Flanger

I just got rid of my RE-501, which was nice.. but I just never used it.
For chorus I typically go for my TC Chorus, which is nice..
But this Virus sound is so lush... if I get a few minutes later this week, I'll whip up a quick soundclip

For one thing, the nicest chorus sound I've found is STEREO, so it's not something I would be able to use in the biker bars I play. I like the Ibanez CS-505 I have, and would love a TC Chorus for a more *80s Hair Band* sound. Always wanted a JC120, but it's also not something I would find real useful in a live context. Lately the most prominent chorus effect I use is *neck vibrato* combined with delay ( a la Bill Frisell). I often get other guitarists asking me what kind of chorus I use, and I tell them "manual".

i am in the same boat here. the best chorus i have ever gotten by far was too complex to do in a pedal all though that doesn't mean i am not trying to do it.  but heres how i got mine.

gutiar into splitter,  zoom 9000s set up for clean sound slight reverb with pitch -3cent  dual delay,  20ms on one 60ms on the other

old boss unit  pitch +2cent 30ms delay.

nicest lushest chorus i have ever had.

Does anybody know what the great wobly chorus is that the Small Faces use on All or nothing ? There's a thing I'd realy like to have ! :)

My girlfriend's sister has an ibanez chorus she doesn't use... it's stereo! CS-9 it is called, lemme pull up a pic:

Should I buy that for 25 euros? 'Cos she'll sell it to me really cheap :)
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

Whenever this debate occurs on the synth lists, it is generally agreed that the 'best' chorus is that in the Arp Omni-2 :)

The ultimate chorus sound is always stereo. Definately.

What makes the JC120 and a lot of chorus pedals "stereo" is that one output (speaker) stays dry while the other is chorused.  So a mono chorus can still be made to be as stereo as a JC120.

That said, the three greatest and most stereo choruses I've used are the Stereo Memory Man, which put the delay in and out of phase if you use both outputs, so your dry is up the middle, delay in phase on one side, and delay out of phase on the other. HUGE! and unrecordable.

The Roland and Boss Dimension units are very lush and fat.

And maybe the weirdest and most gloriously stereo thing I have is the Fender Satelllite FX speaker. If you set it up in a corner it will sound like it's coming from all the walls around you.

The CS-9 was chorus in both ears :) Maybe 90 degrees out of phase but I'm not sure...

For years i had an old DOD Stereo Chorus.  To this day, NO other Chorus sounds better.  To my taste anyways....

In my marshall avt 275 2x12 combo it has really cool chorus settings, but my favorite are the chorus, delay, reverb(a combined setting)it sounds very rich and full as if it were bounced off a few trackes nto one.Kinda remindes me of boston's wall of guitars.

I too agree the stereo chorus owns.

The 'C' series are all electronically the same - with different cases (desktop, rack, full-keyboard, mini-keyboard)..

Mine is still up for sale or trade http://diystompboxes.com/sboxforum/viewtopic.php?t=16333

But come on, doesn't anybody know what chorus is used on All Or Nothing by the Small Faces ?

Surely there weren't that many chorus effects in those days to choose from.
