I recently built an Aion Proxima Flatline optical compressor. 4 knobs. Comp Vol, Clean Vol, Sensitivity and Sustain. The volume knobs work as advertised, but it's hard for me to hear the compression on my acoustic guitar. First I'm not sure which way is up/down, clockwise, counterclockwise. But beyond that I don't really hear it taking out my peaks or raising my soft parts like a compressor should do.

Any ideas?

Try:

Clean:   min
Sustain: max
Range: max
Sensitivity: max
Comp:  to taste for level

Then try backing off the Sustain.

Once you get a base-line of something you can hear play with the other controls to see how things change.
You might find Sensitivity largely changes the level by a moderate amount.
