I'm sure Dave will chime in when he's back online (he's wiring a nice, new wah tonight!)..

He bought one of those powder coating kits...  from some catalog (not sure where)..  and he's been experimenting with that.

That red is awesome!  Looks like it should be on a custom Harley.

Thanks for getting those up, Mark!!  Actually Peter, I had to bake the box @450 prior to coating to get rid of the cast impurities, then I ran a pneumatic finishing sander on it to get rid of the imperfections, smoothed to 320gr, glass beaded the whole thing then coated with translucent red powder, baked again for 20mins. Put the decals on, then I sprayed Polane HS polyurethane enamel clear (Sherwin-Williams) over the whole thing, which is what I clear Beech 1900D prop blades with at work. (I overhaul airplane props @ Ft. Lauderdale Exec. Arprt.) The coating kit was one of those "Hot Coat" deals from MSC. It was $129, I think.

That's it.. I'll put chapter 2 on another post.

Wow Dave, that looks great!  I run my boxes over a stationary belt sander and then finish sand 'em, but I haven't done the powder coat yet.  You've inspired me.

Thanks,
JD

Thanks for the compliments!   :) I'm fortunate to have an air compressor and an oven at work, otherwise it would be difficult..  I'm going to be building a Deluxe Electric Mistress, which I plan on doing in translucent blue, I'll post as soon as I get it done..:)
