My free hosting provider is quitting their free services from decmeber 31st

Now all my rubbish is on their servers and I need to move it.... Anyone have any suggestions on a different free host?
I do need a couple of things though:

-FTP upload support
-Javascript support
-No limitations of filetypes

 Any suggestions?

I also forgot to mention, filesize limit must be a minimum of 1 MB...

I think I'll give angelfire a go :)

smoguzbenjamin, all servers have "Javascript support" by default as Javascript is a client side technology (i.e. it runs in your browser, not on the server). What did you mean by that? I'm a Web Developer by trade, using mostly Java (IBM's WebSphere J2EE server), and I really like mycgiserver.com, but it is really aimed more at Java developers than the general public.

It is free and there are no adds. You have ftp and a 5MB limit, as well as some simple databases, JSP, and Servlets.

Hi, I used Angelfire, but it sucks so much, try another thing first.

I'm now on Geocities and I'm pretty glad with it. I like the site statistics. No ftp upload though

I think there are very few free webhosts left with decent bandwidth/filesize/storage that don't have ads.

A few years ago brinkster was the greatest-it was ONLY free, no ads, very very nice.  Now it's totally pay.

I always used to use geocities, pre-brinkster.  So, I'd say go with that unless you're willing to pay.

Grrr...

Is there an ALMOST free server that anyone can recomend? It might be wll worth paying something (I mean, most of us are paying for net accss anyway.. I'm a cheapskate, but I don't mind paying for value).

Mmmm. Spaceports (which is quitting the free service) was great, only one banner (per page but I hosted a popupkiller  )  But anyway I'll check out the host javacody described :) A friend of mine does lots of java and php type stuff so I could ask him for help if I run into trouble :)

You could always take a crash course in Java. ;). There are plenty of freeware Java menu applets out there. That's much less daunting than learning to code in it. I don't know if that would satisfy their requirement though.

Take care,

I could of course have a nice java-based "upload your diy pics!" or something... couldn't I?

I use godaddy.com, and it isn't free, but the hosting only costs $3.95 a month, which I consider almost free.  I spend $9.95 a month for my easynews (nntp) server account, so $4 for hosting seems pretty reasonable.  If you use godaddy.com, you would also need a domain name, which is like $7.95 a year.  Like I said, it ain't free, but the bandwidth restrictions are a lot better than with free geocities.  I would say 5 times out of 10 when I visit a geocities link posted to this board, I get a "bandwidth exceeded" message, which stinks.

With godaddy, if you want cgi, perl, or asp, you have to pay more, but it still ends up being less than $10 a month.

I guess I'd rather pay a little for web hosting... If I have problems with the hosting provider, I can move my stuff to a different service and point the domain name at it wherever it is.  When you have a free "subdomain" style account, if you move the site, all the search engine links are toast, at least until the new site gets picked up, which takes a while.

found a good one!

Not sure about bandwidth limitations, but no banners just 2 links which are small and tidy at the bottom :) Excellent! Now to take pics and upload 'em!
