Pseudo-stereo pedal/processor

So I remember seeing, a while ago, a schematic and article on a pseudo-stereo pedal. It had an effects loop, and was a pretty simple circuit, which took a mono signal and had two outputs- one of them being the clean signal PLUS the output from the effects loop, the other one being the clean signal MINUS the output from the effects loop- so that the two outputs were out of phase, thus "pseudo-stereo".

Anyone remember this or have a link? I've tried searching here as well as on google, etc. and have turned up nothing. The article suggested using it with an auto-wah or other unusual effects for weird results.

That would be Craig Anderton's "Retro-Stereo" circuit that appeared in Guitar Player several decades back, and also appears in the "DIY Projects for Musicians" book.  Stellan Lehrberg has it at his site: http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/humperdinck/223/effect.htm

Note that the difference signal is often a bit lower in level than the summing signal.  Also note that when listened to in stereo, these can often cancel out for the listener.  Within those limits, though, works great.  My DOD FX20 phaser uses an arrangement like the retro-stereo to provide two different phaser sounds, one at each output jack.  They do not HAVE to be used simultaneously.

AHA! Thanks, Mark, I even looked on your site since I know you have a bunch of older articles scanned...

I may build a couple of these into a rack case, to use for mixing... I love to have stuff like this around, but unfortunately my desk doesn't have phase switches.
