FET question

Hi evryone,
I have a specific problem and a more generic question: I am building a project (runoff groove´s may queen) which uses a j201 fet. This one seems to be unavailable in my country ( no, I wont be mail-ordering if you thinkin´about it). I want to know if there are any replacements in European or Japanese codes. See, with trannys its easy for me but Im completely lost with FETs, and they seem to be temperamental... the question is, I dont know the diff between FET, J-FET, P-FET, MOSFET, XZYFET or whatever and since theyre cool I wanna know. Does anyone know of a " TECH OF THE FETS" article? Like the R. G.  ones, I mean. Well, any help will be much appreciated. Thanx in advance and HAPPY 2004  to all of you!
