Hi all,

I found a good deal on radial caps from a wholesaler. I bought them sight unseen and didn't know what to expect or what they were. I know about radial electrolytics but...

Are they good for effects? Are they the same as film caps? The orange ones look just like the polyester film caps I use all the time, but those aren't called radials. I've got some mixed in another bag that look just like ceramic disc caps... So, once again I'm clueless. They look pretty though.

Radial, afaik, just refers to the arrangement of the leads. The other option is "axial" which is more akin to the arrangement found in resistors. (Both leads are on the same axis). Looks like you'll get an assortment of different compositions...

Radial just means leads that aren't at either end (Axial).

They look like all different types to me, but I see no reason not to use any in stompboxes.  Some might have better tolerances than others so the ones slightly wide of the mark might not be suited to some applications (filters/timers etc), but otherwise just go for it!

Edit: pipped to the post!

The tropical fish models are said  to be the best sounding types.
All are useable but some are best sounding than other

Tropical fish caps are polyester, I have an old color code pic or two in my hard drive, if you need one. Others may be identified precisely if they have some markings. Just a quess, but most of them look like polyester or some film/foil ones, not ceramic

I have too much unsorted caps in my junk box, and just bought a bag of 100 more, I should sort them and put them in good order, so I am worst one to help anybody...
