How would I...[OT?]

Mod the channel one input on my Marshall MkII Master Lead 50w to be less harsh and come on later [like setting at 5 would be like it is now at 3]?
 The pot has a 'jump' sctrich in it that disallows fine tuning right where it is needed...and I think it could use more mids and some very highs rolled off.
 Sorry if this seems OT but it is what I need to make these stompboxes work better, and I can think of no better forum than this to pose this question.
  So I pose the question: should I go to a larger or smaller pot [to make so the volume doesn't go up as high]?
  Alternate fix would be use a fixed resistor...across / or 'to' the pot [from ground]?
  I can figure the caps out I think [use a different one where there is one and run another from signal to ground for highs rolloff]...I think 250v caps should be OK for the inputs.
 This is something I've been meaning to do [I did sorta once already] and would like to get it close enough the first time...any help is greatly appreciated!!!!  Thanks in Advance !

hmm not sure on the volume but you could use my plexi mods for the eq problem..
