...and it's alive!

It's a Rangemaster "testbed" with bias trimpots, swappable caps and a socket for the transistor.  No bypass or pulldown resistors, 9V switch is on the back of the pot.  It's not in an enclosure so you wouldn't want to actually stomp on it - it kinda looks like an offshore oil rig...  here's some pics:

I hadn't anticipated it would be so exciting, the moment before firing it up! I might be hooked  :D

*Thanks to RG for the great info

It's a hard habit to shake.

Nice looking project there. Clean. I like the feet.

Great looking build Saros! 8) :D

If your first project looks that good, there is obviously no hope for you. You have the disease.

Best of luck with finding the "ultimate"component values and with your next build!

Take care,

WOW, thats a pretty sweet looking first build... I get paid in a couple of days and will be shopping for some parts to do my first build... still not quite sure what to do... I was thinking maybe the Scrambler octave pedal...

I currently have the insides as my Computer wallpaper... in getting real antsy to make my first build...

I liked a lot your style to build things. I never saw one like this. Hope you like your effect and build lots more effects.

Looks to me like you used your noggin' on this one.
 Well Done!!!
Scrambler for a first build?   Well 'ok' ...but,  that one still looks pretty tricky to me.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Hey I'd never thought of using perf like that! Cool!
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

Hal

yea, I'm kinda hooked on that adrenaline rush I get before turning a new effect on..."will it work...?!?" ;) ;)

Nice Build, congrats, and welcome :-D

8) Thanks for the nice words, guys!

I'll be glad to share impressions of different part values and types.  Right off the bat I can say that the value of the input cap has a huge effect on the volume as well as the frequency response... a .1 input cap is quite a bit louder and more fuzzy on 10 than a .0047.  There's a very sweet tone to be had in the range of .01 to .022 - full midrange but still that glistening treble.  This has shaped up to be as much a cap-listening platform as one for transistors.

I haven't been able to try it into a cranked tube amp yet (gotta wait 'til the neighbors are gone).  Right now I'm running it into my headphone amp, which does run tubes but obviously doesn't crank them... the acoustic feedback-sustain thing (like in the tonefrenzy clip) is missing with 'phones, I'm looking forward to checking that out!
