Rangemaster before or after a buffer?

I plan to build a Rangemaster with a germanium transistor and I seem to recall reading that it should be placed before any buffers. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Mine works best first in the signal chain, but it's not as critical as it is to a Ge FF. Whatever sounds best to you is what's best.
