I went looking for comparisons of op-amps and found (in the midst of much foolery) this comment.
QuoteI have heard that the NE5532 from ti sounds better than the JRC version though. The main physical characteristic that I've found between the two has to do with the material that the legs are made of. The ti version has much harder legs and therefore it may have a more solid sound to it.

The whole thread, containg LOTS of weirdo wankerisms, is here; http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread/t-8772.html

You'll find a lot of funny stuff at that site. It would be really hilarious if the people weren't serious.

The best one I saw was the eBay auction for "audiophile quality power cables"

Basically, a jug plug lead made out of stupidly expensive cable and plugs and sockets, some spiffy looking fibreglass insulation and a mysteriously heatshrinked box mid-cable.

Here's some text from the eBay page;

QuoteFor those who are new to audiophile powercords, these are intended to replace the standard powercords that comes with your equipments as the stock ones are usually of a poor quality. My powercords will improve 3 areas of your equipment and these are in no particular order (1) dynamic range (2) soundstage (3) musicality

WOW!!! A powercord that makes you a better musician!  Far out!  It's amazing this guy isn't a freakin' millionaire!

WTF is "soundstage"?  I always thought that was a big ass room they made movie sets in!

As for a powercord increasing the dynamic range... well, anyone who knows the slightest thing about DC power supplies will realise this is a bunch of hoohah to put it mildly!

And some banter from my mate zedman to the seller;

Quotezedman; I will be amazed at the gullability of anyone who buys this but hey - fools and money are easily parted

seller; still amazes there are people out there who still live in dark ages and who think they know what they're talking about but have never actually tried it themselves. Interesting don't you think?

zedman; 25 years of teching has taught me that while the most sensitive measuring instuments are actually your ears a CRO can do a real good job at measuring most things. however there is no instrument that can measure the amount of delusion people self induce by buying equipment.
good luck with you sales
