I want to put on onboard preamp in one of my guitars, something that will give me active tone control.  Would one of the AMZ jfet boosters be well suited for this or should I maybe start with the Almebic Stratoblaster and add a tone control?  Maybe something else?

I think I want to stay away from opamps on the off chance that it gets driven past its limits.  Any thoughts or ideas anyone had would be greatly appreciated.

I really like my AMZ Mosboost, you could try that adding a tone control.

Let us know how it goes :)
Cut it large, and smash it into place with a hammer.

I put an LPB-2 in my strat copy, works a charm :D
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

The archetypical onboard boost is Don Tillman's single JFET booster.  See it at http://www.till.com/articles/GuitarPreamp/index.html.

It's got a long history, predating the WWW, and lots of satisfied users.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Ya, I was looking at that one and it was near the top of my list.  I had no idea that it had been around for that long.  Thanks for the tip, I think I might move it to the very topof the list and order the parts right now...
