Agh! What a terrible, terrible day

So I was decorating 2 boxes today.

First off, I drilled the holes unevenly.

Then, I forgot to clean them before I spraypainted, so now there's little chunks of junk underneat the paint.  Just a few though.

I got a lot of spraypaint on my hands.

The blue paint didn't stick to the sides of one of the boxes.

I finally got an oven, so I turned it on, plugged it in... inside.

Turned it to 400, sounds reasonable, no?

So now there's toxic fumes in my house, the paint is all bubbly and burnt, and I've done a bad job on 2 boxes.

I'm going to go for a walk while my 2 boxes cook at 200 degrees OUTSIDE.

:(:(:(

:( Sucks! Get some sleep mate you sound like you need it. Then try again next time and consider this a lesson learnt ;)

Hey Colin, sorry about the bad day.  Sometimes it seems like everything doesn't work (that's how most of my box-finishing experiences have gone).

As far as baking the paint, I've seen suggested temperatures from 100F to 150F.   It might be dangerous to go much higher than that.  Be careful, okay?  :)

i have had the best luck on all my boxes. to set the oven where the knob says WM or warm..   this barley cuts the element on. but at two hours it does a nice job.

Sucks to hear that. You could probably just sand them down and start over, it doesn't sound like you did any irreversible damage. Good luck!

=/

Sounds like "one of those days". Just walk away, take a breather, come back to it later, and who knows... maybe all the mess will inspire you. Some of the best invensions have been by mistake, heck... im sure i was a mistake too :p

Luckily they all turned out sort of interesting.  Oh well, what can I do.  I'm waiting for them to cool down so I can put stuff in them.  The one that bubbled actually looks moderately cool like that...  Not professional at all, though.

Got pics? Unusual and weird is a good thing ;)
Think of it as a Hendrix-at-the-Isle-of-White kinda cool.

No, I just dip them in cold pepsi, and then drink the pepsi.

arg, I hate paint!  From now on, I just sand all my boxes.  I sand mine though so they look rough and beat up, so its just not the ordinary sanded box look.  Not that there is anything wrong with that look, its just sometimes I like to change things up...

....oh, and I also hate drilling!

Sorry to hear of your mishapps..... we've ALL been there too. Consider it a right of passage. ;)

One painting tip.... get ahold of some thin nitrile rubber gloves. They're the Xytronics of rubber gloves. 8)

Take care,
