Is there any way to get more volume out of a Fuzz Face Circuit.  The tone is great, but I'd like more boost.  I built it frome fuzzcentral.  Thanks

Mike Burgundy

1) stick in a hotter T2
2) stick in a booster after the FF (or just plain leave out the volume pot)
3) change the circuit, but alter the tone with that

That said, my FF is *very* loud - are you sure your trannies are low-leakage and powerful enough?

Another option is to move the output cap to the collector of Q2.

2 get more gain(amplitude level) from Q2
alter the collector resistors........
--keep the *total* value of 470ohm + 8K2 the same.
change the ratio.  Total is approx 8K7.
Make it, say, 1K & 7K, or 2K & 6K.
exact value doesn't matter.  Just don't burn up the Germ.
i've breadboarded this exact circuit and have been
juggling R values.  The 500K pot is a load in itself.
If U put 100K after output cap, amplitude decreases.
(with 10K, output dissapears!!)
I'm just watching it on a scope, not listening 2 a Getar.

What do I need to buy to test the transistors?  I'm using ac128 s.

Welcome jlcstrat, :D

Check out R.G.'s article "Technology of the Fuzz Face" at http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/fuzzface/fffram.htm

That should get you started. All you need are a decent meter, two resistors, a regulated 9V supply (ideally), and a pushbutton switch. I would suggest using a 5K 10 turn pot to create the 2.472K resistor.

Take care,
