If you have an hour you could do worse than listen to this.  It’s only up til Sat. so catch it while you can:

Part one is a 'roots of punk' affair, lots of 60s garage, cheesy fuzz and a killer version of ‘Louie Louie’ by the Sonics.
"They always say there's nothing new under the sun.  I think that that's a big copout..."  Wayne Shorter

Mark Hammer

A Sonics compilation I saw proclaimed on the back "5 great musicians!  3 great chords!", and went on to revel in how the Sonics had streamlined "Louie Louie" by reducing it from 3 to 2 chords.  I think I have that single somewhere.

Ed G.

What about the Trashmen? "Surfin' Bird" must have pissed off some parents when it came out. A truly shocking song.

Mark Hammer

I don't know about everyone else at that time, but *I* certainly hadn't heard about, nor did I *know* of, the bird, if indeed that *is* the word.

Actually, it would seem the Rivingtons did it first, if one is to believe "The Beach Boys Live" album (Live from Hawthorne California!)
