no this isnt about amp noise, the thread title was supposed to animate my (limited?) thought process, um..what was i going to say again :oops: ?

oh yeah, what would happen if i replaced the cap in my guitars tone control with a back to back diode pair?

If you have hot pickups (or a series pickup wiring), and you use Ge or Schottky diodes, you'll get some clipping. Look up "black and ice" as a search term and you'll get a bunch more info. :D

If you have plain old single coils, don't expect to get much out of it.

In general, you'll only get clipping on the attack (actual strumming) if you're pickups don't put out much voltage.

If you want to get more out of it.... try adding an LPB1 to the guts of your guitar and place the clipper/pot combo right after that. ;)

Hahahaha, I've heard of a guy who put a RAT in a guitar before.  Not a terrible idea... anyone remember those Dan-o guitars that flopped with the distortion, etc, in them?
