HELP! first build, ross clone. (need debugging)

ok so a while ago i got the board built, 100%

moved onto the wiring, its been giving me problems.  ive got everything wired how i thought it was supposed to be, except im using two mono jacks instead of stereo/mono.  pluged it in (not in the box, just loose to test it) and i finally got a signal, but it has a lot of feed back, the volume pot works but i cant get the led to work.

basically i need help wiring the input as mono.  if anyone can give a good beginner explanation on how to do this i would appreciate it.

also does leaving the parts out of the enclosure to test it affect how it will work?  i havent gotten my box ready yet but im trying to get it working first.

as for the led, it flashed very low when i hit the switch, but doesnt stay on (ive got a 4k7 added to it.  sorry this is so long, but i need serious help!

ok also , when i was testing it, the only way i could get a signal out of it was to press my finger on the volume pot wires, maybe the wires werent solidly connected?  and i had to hit a note on the guitar, while touching a different string.  :?:   :(

As far as the mono jacks go, you may be having trouble.  Don't connect the 9V battery to them anywhere except for ground (- terminal).  This ground connection goes to the ring.  The tip is the signal wire.  These are the only two connections that should be made to the jacks.  Ground on both (rings connected together), input on one, output on the other.  Keep in mind this will drain your battery as long as the battery is connected.

I'm assuming your LED is lit by a transistor whose base is connected to the output of the pedal when bypassed, or vice versa.  This can be problematic if your transistor has low gain, or if your "ground" is not really ground...there could be multiple things wrong here.

Basically, us at the forum don't like to go searching out schematics when you have problems, so you will probably get a lot more help if you copy and paste the URL to the schematic in a post so I can just go there and look at the schematic for reference.

Ok, get rid of anything transistor related for the LED indicator.  Just use the circuit shown.  The only difference you should have is that you're using a mon jack on the input.  See how the 9V battery connects to the stereo jack?  What happens when you plug in your guitar is that the ring shorts the ground terminal and the 9V negative terminal together, thus completing the circuit.  So all you need to do with a mono jack is connect the 9V battery to the terminal that has the "ground triangle" shown on it, in other words, you just hardwire this connection so that the circuit is always active as long as the battery is connected.

With a 3PDT switch, the pot should not effect the LED.  Just use one of the SPDT terminals of the switch.  To the "center" lug, connect a 4.7k resistor in series with an LED.  Connect the other end of that 4.7k/LED circuit to +9V.

Connect ground to one of the other lugs of the switch and leave the other un-connected.  

Use the other two 'SPDT' terminals of the 3PDT switch as your normal DPDT bypass switch.

After checking these things, and you still have problems, reply with some more details about the problems.

Since you don't have it in a box yet make sure you have the ground from both jacks and the board all connected together.
