Wah Inductor magnet mod

Ok, so I've read somewhere on this site that there was a reversible mod involving fridge magnets and an inductor.  I have a GCB-95 that's about 2 years old, and was wondering how this mod worked.  Am I right in thinking that you just wrap a strip of magnet around the inductor to give it some polarity?  Or do you place the magnet on top (top view is O) to magnetize the core?  Or should I forget about it completely and go with a different inductor all together?  I'm trying to do anything to my crappy crybaby to sound more musical, less piercing, etc.  Hopefully, I'll add a buffer so it actually works with distortion also...
